Huskies Win Back-To-Back Harvard Select Meet Titles

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - For the second straight season, the University of Connecticut men's track and field team won the Harvard Select Meet bringing home 10 titles and winning nine of the 12 events on the day.
Sixteen different Huskies qualified for postseason action on the day, six had IC4A qualifying times while 10 qualified for the New England Championships.
Senior captain Anthony Burris won two events on the day bringing home the 400 meter and 200 meter titles. He qualified for the New England Championships in both races finishing with a time of 49.55 seconds in the 400 meter and 22.26 in the 200m.
The Huskies took one-two in three individual events on the day. Jake Waruch and Sam Smith took first (1.98m) and second (1.93m) respectively in the high jump, Matt Alexander and Zach Meverden finished one-two in the pole vault (4.64m each) and Jesse Drinks and Kevin Steinberg went back-to-back in the 60 meter dash with IC4A qualifying times of 6.93 seconds and 6.97 seconds respectively.
Also finishing at the top were Scott Johnson in the one mile run (4:17.14), Chris Whyte in the 60 meter hurdles (8.59 seconds), Alex Bennetan in the 800-meter run (1:54.88) and Aretm Skobrev in the 3000 meter run (8:46.25). Bennetan qualified for the IC4A Championship while Johnson and Whyte finished with New England Qualifying times.
The lone relay title on the day came via the 4x400 meter hurdles as UConn finished with a time of 3:23.14.
Also highlighting the day was freshman Josh Faboyede who came in second in the weight throw with a season best and IC4A qualifying toss of 18.15m.
The Huskies look to bring this success into next week's meet as they prepare for the illustrious Saturday Night at the Armory. UConn will take on BIG EAST foes Syracuse and Villanova, Ivy League competition in Columbia and Princeton, defending America East and IC4A Champion Albany, Patriot League rival Army and the ACC's Virginia in a meet that will take place from 6:30 to 10 p.m.
