STORRS, Conn. - On her third game-winning goal of the year sophomore Melissa Busque (St. Bruno, Quebec) helped the University of Connecticut women's soccer team to their sixth-straight win, a 1-0 decision over Yale on Sunday.
The game winner came in the 67th minute for the Huskies. Junior Erin Clark (Somers, Conn.) sent a pass up to Busque who drilled a shot at the Yale goalkeeper Ayana Sumiyasu. Sumiyasu made the initial save but Busque gathered the rebound and tapped it in to put the Huskies on the board.
With the victory the Huskies improve to 6-2-0 on the year entering the BIG EAST portion of their schedule while Yale evens everything up at 3-3-0.
UConn dominated the first half controlling the ball for the majority of the 45 minutes. The Huskies outshot Yale 21-1 in the first half but could not get anything into the goal.
In the 55th minute, Busque knocked in a goal from about 1 yard out of the goal but it was taken away after a late offsides call. The sophomore forward redeemed herself in the 67th minute though, recording her third goal of the season.
Clark's assist was her first of the year. The junior has recorded a point in the last three games for the Huskies.
UConn finished the game with a season high 36 shots, with 16 of them coming on goal. Sophomore Jessica Dulski (Pittsford, N.Y.) recorded two saves in her second shut out of the weekend.
The Huskies return to action on Thursday, September 24 when they take on St. John's in Queens, N.Y. at 7:00 p.m.
