STORRS, Conn. - Dennis Accomando became the seventh Husky to sign a professional baseball contract following the 2009 season, one which saw the Huskies battle it out with eventual BIG EAST Champion Louisville in the 2009 BIG EAST Baseball Championship game in Clearwater, Fla.
Accomando signed with the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday, and will play with the Braves' Single-A team in Danville, Va. in the Appalachian League East.
The lefty hurler from Monroe, Conn. finished the season with a 3.46 ERA and a 1-1 overall record from the hill for the Huskies. He made 20 appearances and pitched 13 innings as he allowed 10 hits and five runs, while striking out 12.
Accomando joins fellow 2009 UConn teammates Dusty Odenbach, John Folino and David Erickson among the signees from the UConn baseball roster. Dan Mahoney, Peter Fatse and Harold Brantley Jr also signed with their respective ball clubs.
The Florida Marlins signed both Mahoney and Brantley after the 2009 MLB Draft, while Odenbach was signed by the Kansas City Royals. Fatse was signed by the Milwaukee Brewers as Folino signed with the St. Louis Cardinals. Two-time UConn captain, Erickson, signed with the San Diego Padres to round out the group.
