Smith Finishes First At Bulldog Decathlon

ATHENS, Ga. - In his first decathlon of the season, University of Connecticut men's track and field captain senior Sean Smith took the top spot in the Bulldog Decathlon held at the University of Georgia. The captain finished with an IC4A qualifying 6,779 points.
The other two Huskies that participated in the decathlon, freshmen Ben and Jake Waruch (Kerhonkson, N.Y.) took third and fourth place respectively. Ben Waruch finished with 6,412 points while Jake finished with 6,387.
The three athletes finished first a combined six times with Smith recording three of those first place victories.
UConn also began competition at the Spec Towns Invitational with the triple jump and hammer throw taking place.
Junior Jamaal Smith (Albany, N.Y.) finished second on the day for the Huskies jumping an IC4A qualifying 14.84m (48-8.25). Also competing for the Huskies in the hammer throw was sophomore Greg Manzolillo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) who tossed a throw of 51.36m (168-6) for 11th place.
The Huskies return to action Saturday, April 11, 2009 in day two of the Spec Towns Invitational.
