Men's Track Opens Outdoor Season At LSU Relays

BATON ROUGE, La. - The University of Connecticut men's track and field team opened up their outdoor season at the in the LSU Relays on March 28 and 29. Only nine members of the team traveled down to the meet with five athletes finishing in the top 10 in their respected events.
Both juniors Kyle Edmonds (Metuchen, N.J.) and Anthony Burris (Bridgeport, Conn.) qualified for the 400m Hurdles final. Edmonds finished in fifth place with a time of 53.02 and Burris finished in ninth with a time of 58.86.
In the pole vault, freshman Matt Alexander (Tolland, Conn.) took eighth with a height of 4.60 (15-1). Also finishing in eighth, but in the triple jump, was junior Jamaal Smith (Albany, N.Y.) who had a jump of 14.34m (47-0.75).
Sophomore Patrick Sampson (Middletown, R.I.) was the final Husky to finish in the top-10 this time in the hammer throw with his toss of 50.58 (165-11).
The Huskies are back in action next weekend when they host the UConn Alumni Invitational in Storrs on Saturday, April 4.
