Huskies Shutout At Mercyhurst 5-0

ERIE, Pa. - The University of Connecticut men's hockey team dropped their fourth-straight game falling at Mercyhurst 5-0 on Friday night in front of 986 people at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. The game was the 11th on the road for the Huskies in this fall season.
UConn's record drops to 2-11-2 on the year and 2-7-2 in Atlantic Hockey play while Mercyhurst improves to 7-9-1 on the year and 7-5-1 in AHA play.
Junior Brad McInnis (Anchorage, Alaska) got his third start in goal of the season making 36 saves for the Huskies, but allowing the five goals in 52:08 minutes of play. Rookie Jeff Larson (Ballwin, Mo.) played the final eight minutes for the Huskies recording two saves.
Mercyhurst got out to a quick lead in the first period when the team's leading scorer Brandon Coccimiglio added another goal to his total at 2:48 with some help from Derek Elliott. The goal was his first game-winner this season.
In the second, the Lakers added another three to the board tallying two in the matter of 10 seconds. First, Scott Pitt tallied Mercyhurst's second goal of the night on a power play opportunity at 8:24 followed by a full-strength goal by Grant Blakey at 8:34.
Mercyhurst added another goal before the end of the period at 12:08 as Blakey recorded his second-straight goal of the night. Coccimiglio recorded assists on both of Blakey's goals notching three points on the night.
In the third, Nick Vandenbeld scored just 34 seconds into the period, giving the Lakers their fifth goal of the night. This is the third-straight game that the Huskies have let up at least five goals in a night.
The Huskies return to action for the final time in their fall season when they take on Mercyhurst Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.
