Huskies Excel in Baseball Summer Leagues

STORRS, Conn. (July 22, 2008) — The University of Connecticut baseball team has produced 17 individuals who are currently playing in baseball summer leagues all around the East Coast. Of those players, seven were chosen to participate in their respective league All-Star Games.
The following is an update of all Huskies playing in NCAA-sanctioned leagues this summer.
Atlantic Baseball Confederation Collegiate League
Mike Nemeth (Washington, N.J.); Middletown Monarchs - Chosen for the 2008 ABCCL DreamMakers All-Star Game at First Energy Park in Lakewood, N.J... has posted a .300 batting average with 24 hits in 24 games played... has scored 17 runs with five doubles... has walked 16 times and has five stolen bases with 15 RBIs... posts a slugging percentage of .425 and an on-base percentage of .417.
Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League
Harold Brantley, Jr. (Silver Spring, Md.); New York Metro Cadets - Selected for the ACBL All-Star Game between the Kaiser and Wolff Divisions at Jack Kaiser Stadium on July 28 on the campus of St. John's University... leads his team with a .330 batting average, 17 stolen bases and 24 runs scored... has 29 hits, including six doubles and one homerun... has knocked in 14 runs in 28 games played for the 15-13 Cadets... has recorded 56 putouts with a 1.000 fielding percentage.
Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League
Trent DeLazzer (Cypress, Calif.); Rockville Express - Has a 2-3 overall record as a starting pitcher for the 13-21 Rockville Express... has started seven of eight games played this season... currently posts a 3.40 ERA with one save... Has thrown 42.1 innings while allowing 45 hits, 16 earned runs and 13 walks, while striking out 25.
Doug Jennings (Pompton Plains, N.J.); Rockville Express - Named to the East roster in the Cal Ripken, Sr. League All-Star Game... posts a 3-1 overall record on the mound... has an ERA of 2.16 in eight games... has started seven games... has one shutout on the year in 41.2 innings pitched... has given up 24 hits and 10 earned runs while striking out a team second-best 38 batters.
Cape Cod League
David Erickson (Stratford, Conn.); Bourne Braves - Has a 2-1 record on the mound in 15 games played... is posting a 4.09 ERA in 22 innings pitched... has recorded one save... has allowed 19 hits and 11 runs, including 10 earned runs... has walked five and struck out 24 batters for the 17-15 Braves.
Elliot Glynn (Los Alamitos, Calif.); Orleans Cardinals - Has a record of 1-1 on the mound in nine appearances... currently posting a 2.89 ERA... in 9.1 innings, he has allowed 11 hits, three earned runs and seven walks... has struck out seven... he has also scored one run for the 21-9 Cardinals this season.
Pierre LePage (Wolcott, Conn.); Bourne Braves - Was a mid-summer addition to the Braves' roster... has recorded 10 at-bats in four games played for the 17-15 Braves...posts a .200 batting average with two hits, one RBI and three runs scored... has walked twice and has an on-base percentage of .333.
New England Collegiate Baseball League
Dennis Accomando (Monroe, Conn.); Danbury Westerners - Has started eight times in nine games played... posts an overall record of 1-3 on the mound for the 10-23 Westerners... in 48.1 innings thrown has given up 70 hits, 43 runs and 34 earned runs... has struck out 36 batters.
Peter Fatse (Hampden, Mass.); Holyoke Blue Sox - After spending the initial part of the summer with the North Shore Navigators, Peter moved closer to his home in western Massachusetts to play for the Blue Sox and has a .286 batting average with 12 hits in 11 games played... has scored six runs, recorded three doubles and six RBIs... posts a .405 slugging percentage while 1-for-1 in stolen bases... has registered 20 putouts and 26 assists for the 15-15 Blue Sox.
John Folino (Quincy, Mass.); North Shore Navigators - Began the summer as a temporary player on both the Wareham and Chatham rosters in the Cape Cod League... has settled into the NECBL nicely in Lynn, Mass.... the 49th round pick for the New York Yankees is 2-0 in two starts for the 20-10 Navigators... posts a 0.69 ERA with one combined shutout for the 20-10 ... in 13.0 innings pitched, has allowed 10 hits, one walk and one earned run... has struck out eight... opponents' average is .227.
Ted Hurvul (Monroe, Conn.); Danbury Westerners - In four games played, has recorded two starts... has a 4.02 ERA in 15.2 innings thrown... allowed 20 hits, including six doubles... walked four batters and allowed seven runs... has struck out 10 on the season.
Dan Mahoney (Boston, Mass.); Newport Gulls - Chosen for the 2008 NECBL All-Star Game at Fuessenich Park in Torrington, Conn.... has a 1-1 overall record on the mound for the 18-15 Gulls... posts a 1.47 ERA in 12 appearances and 18.1 innings pitched... has a team-high four saves and has one combined shutout... allowed 15 hits, three runs and eight walks... has struck out 31 batters of 68 faced.
Dusty Odenbach (Rochester, N.Y.); Vermont Mountaineers - Selected for the 2008 NECBL All-Star Game... holds an overall record of 1-1 with a 2.04 ERA in 13 appearances... has recorded one combined shutout and a team-high seven saves... in 17.2 innings thrown has given up 15 hits, four earned runs and six walks, while striking out 32 for the 17-14 Mountaineers.
Mike Olt (Branford, Conn.); Danbury Westerners - Chosen for the 2008 NECBL All-Star Game on July 20... posts a .294 batting average in a team-high 31 games played... leads the Westerners with 126 at-bats, 27 runs scored, 37 hits, eight doubles, six homeruns and 30 RBIs... became the first UConn player to win the NECBL Homerun Derby... was named Co-Player of the Week for the week ending on July 20... has a .516 slugging percentage and a .348 on-base percentage... also has picked up 41 putouts and 78 assists.
New York Collegiate Baseball League
Doug Elliot (Rocky Hill, Conn.); Geneva Red Wings - Participated in the NYCBL All-Star Game on July 7 in Watertown, N.Y. at the Duffy Fairgrounds... has a .321 batting average in 28 games played for the 15-13 Red Wings... has 35 hits and 12 runs, including eight doubles and 10 RBIs... posts a slugging percentage of .394 while going 6-for-6 in stolen base attempts... has 201 putouts, a team high, with 13 assists and a .977 fielding percentage.
Joe Pavone (Rochester, N.Y.); Brockport Riverbats - Has a .209 batting average in 18 games played for the 23-10 Riverbats... has 14 hits, 12 runs scored and six RBIs with a .239 slugging percentage... has walked 11 times and has recorded 150 putouts and 20 assists.
Shenandoah Valley League
Dale Brannon (St. Petersburg, Fla.); New Market Rebels - Has a .200 batting average with the 13-25 Rebels... has recorded six hits, including one double, and two RBIs... has registered 17 putouts and 27 assists this summer... on the mound, has a 4.50 ERA in five appearances... in eight innings pitched, has given up four runs, while striking out five.
