STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's ice hockey looks to turn the season around prior to hosting this weekend's Nutmeg Classic. UConn (6-6-2, 3-4-0) takes on Brown at Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum on Tuesday night. Face-off is set for 7 p.m.
The Huskies have lost their last three games this season, the longest losing streak since ending the 2007-08 season with a three-game skid. Held scoreless in their last two games, the Huskies' offense was stalled by Providence (Nov. 16) and Boston College (Nov. 20). UConn was shutout for two-consecutive games for the first time since a pair of losses to then No. 2 Dartmouth during the 2003-04 season.
Tuesday night's game against Brown is a break for conference action for UConn as the team has faced four Hockey East opponents to start the month of November. The Huskies are 2-3-1 against Brown in the all-time series and most recently won a 2-1 overtime decision on Nov. 4, 2007.
Brown (2-7-1, 2-4-0) lost a pair of home games to Niagara (Nov. 21) and then-No. 10 Mercyhurst (Nov. 22) last weekend. The 5-1 loss to Mercyhurst was the second loss at the hands of ranked opponent for the Brown Bears this season after losing a 3-2 decision to then-No. 9 St. Lawrence on Nov. 8. Led in scoring by Andrea Hunter with six points (3G, 3A), Brown is undefeated when scoring more than three goals this season. Vika Mykolenko also has three assists for the Bears, the most recent on Frances Male's first goal of the year. Male scored the lone goal against Mercyhurst.
UConn hosts the fifth annual Nutmeg Classic on Friday and Saturday with intra-state rivals Yale and Quinnipiac along with out-of-state guest, Wayne State competing for the Nutmeg Classic Championship title. The Huskies won the inaugural classic in 2004-05 and took the title in 2007-08. The first game features UConn vs. Wayne State at 4 p.m. on Friday followed by Yale against Quinnipiac at 7 p.m.
