Women's Tennis Wraps Up Day One At Army Invitational

WEST POINT, N.Y. (September 14, 2007) - After the first day of competition, five members of the University of Connecticut women's tennis team have advanced to the quarterfinal rounds of their respective events at the Army Women's Invitational Friday.
Megan Doran (Brigantine, N.J.) received a walkover in the first round and then bested her Round of 16 opponent, Pittsburgh's Christine D'Achille, 7-5, 6-4, in Flight Four. She will play Zena Williams of Duquesne in the quarterfinals Saturday.
Two doubles pairs also advanced to the quarters. BreAnn Cheung (Tuscon, Ariz.) and Katie Moritz (York, Pa.) had the fourth seed in Flight One, earning a bye in round one before taking down Shannon Benic and Carlie Smith from Pittsburgh, 8-4. They will face the unseeded duo of Courtney Dorsey and Laura Marin on Saturday in the quarterfinals.
In the second doubles group, Ali Campitiello (New York, N.Y.) and Alison Koch (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) also had a bye in the first round before meeting up with a fellow BIG EAST squad. Seton Hall's Liza Chu and Nathalie Ranger fell to Campiteiello and Koch, 8-1, in the round of 16.
Kelly LoRusso (Shoreham, N.Y.), Jessica Porter (Duluth, Ga.) and Emily Herb (Cherry Hill, N.J.) competed in singles Flights One, Two and Three, respectively.
The Army Women's Invitational continues through Sunday in West Point, N.Y.
