Women's Tennis Has Successful Day At The Bucknell Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. (October 6, 2007) - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team wrapped up the second day of competition at the Bucknell Invitational Saturday with the second round of singles play and three rounds of doubles.
The Huskies took seven-of-eight singles matches on the day and nine-of-12 doubles matches.
"Everyone really put forth an outstanding effort," said head coach Glenn Marshall. "Our singles players were 7-1 and doubles teams were 9-3, bringing our win total for the day to 16. It was truly a great team effort by all players today."
Ali Campitiello (New York, N.Y.)/Megan Doran (Brigantine, N.J.) won all three of their #3 doubles contests (8-3, 8-2, 8-3). The other three pairs rebounded after dropping their first round match to win the second and third rounds.
Both Campitiello and Doran were victorious in singles play, capturing wins in Flights 5 and 6, respectively.
Emily Herb (Cherry Hill, N.J.) led the way through singles play by winning her Flight #2 pairing, 6-3, 6-1, over NJIT's Dasa Stainimorivic. From there, the wins just kept coming.
BreAnn Cheung (Tuscon, Ariz.) won the second round of #3 singles play, defeating her NJIT opponent Fatima Kasem, 6-0, 6-3, followed by Jessica Porter (Duluth, Ga.) and her, 2-6, 6-4, (10-5) win over Dara Dwojeski of Boston University.
Katie Mortitz (York, Pa.) and Alison Koch (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) also picked up wins, taking numbers 7 and 8 singles. Moritz shutout her opponent, 6-0, 6-0, while Koch came away with a 6-4, 6-1 win in the #8 spot.
Competition concludes Sunday at the Bucknell Invitational.
