STORRS, Conn. (September 7, 2006)-- The University of Connecticut announced its 2006-07 men’s basketball schedule Thursday, a demanding slate of 30 games that will feature a school-record 20 regular season contests at home in either the Hartford Civic Center or the Harry A. Gampel Pavilion.
UConn will play 11 regular season match-ups on national television in 2006-07, four on CBS and four on ESPN, two on espn2 and one on ABC. Local television broadcast plans for the remainder of the schedule will be announced at a later date.
“This is another outstanding schedule that will be exciting for our team and fans,” said Director of Athletics Jeffrey Hathaway. “The Hartford Civic Center schedule is one of the strongest we have ever faced, featuring four tough BIG EAST games as well as opponents from the Big Ten and Southeastern Conferences. In Gampel Pavilion, the schedule includes four great BIG EAST dates and a visit from 2006 NCAA Tournament opponent Albany. Having a school-record number of home games will certainly maximize the ability for as many of our UConn fans as possible to see the Huskies.”
The home schedule features ten contests at the Harry A. Gampel Pavilion on the UConn campus in Storrs. That includes the exhibition opener on Wednesday, November 1 against American International College, the alma mater of 21st-year Husky head coach Jim Calhoun. Highlighting the Gampel Pavilion schedule will be nationally televised contests against Syracuse on Monday, February 5 (ESPN) and against Villanova on Wednesday, February 28 (ESPN).
The Huskies will play 12 contests at the Hartford Civic Center, including one exhibition contest against Bryant University on Monday, November 6. Headlining the Civic Center schedule will be nationally televised games against Indiana on Saturday, January 20 (CBS) and Louisville on Sunday, February 25 (CBS). The Huskies will also play host to the Hispanic College Fund Classic in Hartford from Friday-Sunday, November 17-19, a three-day, four-team event featuring UConn, Mississippi, Fairfield and Central Arkansas.
The Husky road slate will include non-conference trips to Louisiana State on Saturday, January 6 (ESPN) and to face Georgia Tech on Sunday, February 11 (CBS). The game at LSU will be the debut of ESPN’s College Gameday, marking the third straight season UConn has competed in the premier of the three-year old event. The game against Georgia Tech will take place at the Georgia Dome in downtown Atlanta, the site of the 2007 NCAA Final Four. The Huskies will also face nationally televised road match-ups at West Virginia on Saturday, December 30 (espn2), at Pittsburgh on Tuesday, January 16 (espn2), at Louisville on Monday, January 22 (ESPN), at Syracuse on Saturday, February 17 (ABC) and the regular season finale at Georgetown on Saturday, March 3 (CBS).
The UConn men's basketball ticket price will remain at $30 for the 2006-07 season -- the third-straight season that there has not been an increase in ticket prices for UConn men's basketball.
