Former Husky Hurler Called To The Bigs

MIAMI, Fla. (June 21, 2006) – Former University of Connecticut pitcher, Jeff Fulchino, was called to the Major Leagues on Tuesday afternoon by the Florida Marlins. The right-handed hurler played for UConn from 1999-2001. Fulchino was drafted by the Marlins in the eighth round of the 2001 draft. The Husky Alumni is scheduled to make his first appearance in this weekend’s series against the New York Yankees.
Prior to being called up, Fulchino played for the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes. As an Isotope this season, Fulchino played in 13 games and posted a 2-4 record. His earned run average is 3.91 in 73.2 innings pitched. Coming into this season, Fulchino’s career numbers in the minors stood at 30-33 with a 4.01 ERA.
During his time at UConn, Fulchino made 24 appearances and posted a 4.85 ERA. He held a 7-9 record and fanned 94 batters.
