STORRS, Conn. (December 11, 2006) -- University of Connecticut women’s rowing coach Jennifer Sanford has announced the signing of two student-athletes to a National Letter of Intent and enroll at the University next fall.
Mollie Riester is a coxswain from Buffalo, N.Y., and attends Nardin Academy. She coxes for Nardin in the spring season and for the West Side Rowing Club in the summer and fall.
"Mollie will be a great addition to our program next year,” says Sanford. “We were looking for a coxswain with the experience and confidence to come into our program and make a difference right away since we will be losing our two top coxswains to graduation this year. Mollie has experienced winning in high school, and is ready to step in as a college freshman and continue that tradition."
Taylor Hoige is a rower from Baldwinsville, N.Y., and attends C.W Baker High School. She rows for Baldwinsville High School in the spring and for the Syracuse Chargers Rowing Club in the summer and fall.
"Taylor has drive, determination, and a very strong work ethic,” says Sanford. “She comes from a strong club and high school program and has experienced success on many levels in her rowing career. We are looking forward to Taylor coming in and being a positive role-model to other freshman student-athletes both on and off the water, as she is also an excellent student in the classroom."
