STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (October 4, 2006) - With her third straight match-high in six days, junior Sade Chambers (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) recorded 13 kills to aid the University of Connecticut volleyball team to a 3-0 (30-15, 30-15, 30-15) blowout of Wagner on Wednesday, Oct. 4, in Staten Island, N.Y.
The Huskies (12-6, 1-3 BIG EAST) wasted no time in game one after going on a 4-0 run behind kills from Chambers and freshman Kate Seabaugh (St. Louis, Mo.). Wagner bounced back with three straight points, but between senior Megan Silver (Snohomish, Wash.) and sophomore Sarah Singer (Waukesha, Wisc.) who each assisted a block and added a kill apiece, UConn stayed in control at 13-7. Two Seabaugh kills with a block from Chambers and Silver in between would force the Seahawks to call timeout at 20-13. Singer would end game one with a kill, 30-15.
UConn kept the momentum going in game two as Chambers had three kills in the first eight points. With Silver adding a block and a kill coupled with serves from freshman Jessica Isaac (Erlanger, Ky.), the Huskies kept a 13-5 lead. Sophomore Lorelle Schaub (New Brighton, Minn.) would close out game two for UConn, 30-15.
Although Wagner opened game three with a block, the Huskies scored an astounding 13 straight points behind Singer's serves, in which she had three service aces during that string to give UConn a commanding 27-11 lead. Chambers would add three kills in that time, but as the damage was already done, Seabaugh took the game and match for UConn with a kill, 30-15.
Seabaugh finished with 12 kills while Silver contributed seven, hitting .545 on the night with three blocks. Singer also had seven kills with four service aces and three blocks. Freshman Bridget Denson-Dorman (Maple Grove, Minn.) chipped in 36 assists with Isaac leading the way in digs with 11.
As a team the Huskies hit .400 and recorded nine total team blocks.
UConn returns to BIG EAST action when they host Seton Hall on Sunday, Oct. 8, at 2 p.m.
