Huskies Defeat Hofstra in Season Opener

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Huskies opened their 2005 regular season with a 3-0 victory over Hofstra in the Penn State Tournament. Meghan Schnur (Butler, Pa.) led the way for Connecticut with a goal and an assist.
The Huskies scored all three of their goals in the first half with Schnur scoring the first goal, unassisted, at the 5:27 mark. Freshman Elizabeth Eng (Chicago, Ill.) scored the first goal of her collegiate career off of assists from Schnur and senior Kathleen Frank (Lansing, Mich.). Also scoring the first goal in her collegiate career was freshman Maria Picard (Upton, Mass.). Picard found the back of the net with an assist from senior Kristi Lefebvre (Colchester, Vt.) at the 41:16 mark to bring the Huskies ahead 3-0.
For the game, the Huskies out-shot the Pride 14-2. Redshirt freshman Stephanie Labbe (Stony Plain, Alberta) made one save for Huskies during her time in the net. Labbe and senior Megan Jesse (Orefield, Pa.) split time between the pipes with Labbe stopping the Pride's lone shot on goal in the second half.
The Huskies will play again on Sunday, Aug. 28, against the Nittany Lions of Penn State at 2:30 p.m.
