MILWAUKEE โ The UConn women's soccer team (3-4-8, 1-2-4 BIG EAST) earned a 1-1 result against Marquette (7-2-7, 3-1-3 BIG EAST) at Valley Fields on Saturday afternoon. ย
Anaya Johnson had a standout performance including her second goal of the season that came in the 60th minute.
The Huskies earned a corner kick opportunity and sophomore Maree-Anne Van Doesburg served a great ball into the box that found the head of Johnson. The Brampton, Ontario native headed the ball just over the goal line to give UConn the 1-0 lead.
Johnson led the Huskies with three total shots with a pair of them on goal.
Gabby Miller had a great opportunity to give the Huskies some more cushion in the 66th minute when she found herself alone in the box and fired a shot that was parried away by the Marquette keeper.
Marquette answered in the 81st minute to draw even with a goal from Jocelyn Leigh.
Ines Nourani and Van Doesburg had opportunities for go-ahead tallies in the 88th minute with Nourani streaking in the box and having her shot knocked away. The rebound was volleyed out of the air by Van Doesburg but the shot sailed high and wide.
Next up, the Huskies have a pair of critical home matches next week with Butler and Georgetown coming to Morrone Stadium. UConn faces Butler on Wednesday, October 28 at 6:30 p.m.
