Huskies Fall To AIC, 5-2

STORRS, Conn. (December 2, 2005) - The University of Connecticut men's hockey team fell to the Yellow Jackets of American International, 5-2, at home on Friday night. The victory is the first of the season for AIC as it improves to 1-8-0 overall and 1-5-0 in the Atlantic Hockey Association while the Huskies drop to 3-7-1 overall and 2-6-0 in the AHA.
The Huskies jumped out to an early lead, scoring two goals in the first period, but they were unable to hold on. Freshman Chris Myhro (Eden Prairie, Minn.) had the team's first goal on a power play at the 8:45 mark of the first stanza. He was assisted by senior captain Chris Uber (Ithaca, N.Y.) and freshman Sean Erickson (Eden Prairie, Minn.). Connecticut set off the lights and buzzers again :20 later on a goal junior Brian Burns (Binghamton, N.Y.), his second of the season.
The Huskies faded into the background as the game progressed. AIC scored its first goal at the 12:11 mark of the second stanza, and then again, :20 later on a power play. The team's third goal, scored by Neil Sullivan, was shorthanded and the game-winner of the night.
AIC went on to score two more to seal the Huskies' fate. Though Connecticut out-shot the Yellow Jackets 31-13, the team was unable to convert on power plays. The Huskies had six opportunities on the night and only advanced on one.
The teams will face-off again tomorrow night on AIC's home ice in Springfield, Mass. The game is slated for 7:00 p.m.
