Five Huskies Tabbed NSCAA All-New England Honorees

KINGSTON, R.I. (December 13, 2005) - A school record five members of the University of Connecticut men’s soccer team were named to the 2005 All-New England Team, released Monday by the regional chapter of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Willis Forko (Houston, Texas), Julius James (Maloney Gardens, Trinidad) and Mpho Moloi (Soweto, South Africa) each garnered first team honors, while O’Brian White (Scarborough, Ontario, Canada) was placed on the second team and Adam Schuerman (Brookfield, Wis.) on the third.
Forko garnered Third Team All-BIG EAST accolades for the second consecutive year after playing and starting in all 21 games in the Husky backfield. Along with fellow honoree James, the senior defender helped anchor a defense that allowed an average of just 0.56 goals per game, while tallying 14 shutouts. With Forko’s help, the Huskies gave up just two goals at home during the regular season. He tallied a goal against Hartwick (9/4) and six assists on the season, while playing an average of 91 minutes per game for the second-most minutes of any field player.
Moloi, a three-time captain for the Huskies, anchored the midfield during the last three years. The senior midfielder will participate in Major League Soccer combine in January after finishing his career at UConn as the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year, as well as a First Team All-BIG EAST honoree. He was tagged the conference Defender of the Week after playing George Mason (9/9) and UNC Greensboro (9/11) in the Brown Tournament. Moloi played and started in all 21 games for the Huskies, tallying an assist against Marquette on Chukwudi Chijindu's goal and averaging 89 minutes per game.
Named BIG EAST Defender of the Year, as well as a candidate for the M.A.C. Hermann Trophy James was named a Second Team All-American by the NSCAA. He Received First Team All-BIG EAST honors after bring named conference Defensive Player of the Week twice (9/26, 10/31). James played and started in all 21 games, helping anchor a defense that allowed an average of just 0.56 goals per game, while posting 14 shutouts. On the other side of the pitch, James scored two goals, one against George Mason (9/9) and another on the road vs. Notre Dame (10/8), while averaging 91 minutes of play per game.
White completed his freshman campaign as the team leader in points with 10 goals and eight assists, earning BIG EAST Rookie of the Year and BIG EAST Tournament Offensive MVP honors along the way. Schuerman wrapped up his college career as the school record holder in shutouts with 38, while taking second place all-time in career wins (51).
The two-time defending BIG EAST Champion Huskies concluded their 2005 season in the third round of the NCAA Tournament, falling to Akron in penalty kicks. UConn captured both the regular season and the tournament championships for just the second time in school history and the first since 1999.
