UConn Announces 2005 Baseball Schedule

STORRS, Conn. (Nov. 1) - The University of Connecticut baseball team announced its schedule for the 2005 season on Monday, Nov. 1. The 56-game schedule includes three 2004 NCAA Regional participants, BIG EAST foes Notre Dame and St. John's along with intrastate rival Central Connecticut, and one NCAA Super Regional participant in Vanderbilt.
Connecticut opens its season with a 17-game road trip before its home-opener on March 22 against UMass.
UConn begins 2005 play in the Music City Challenge Feb. 25-27 in Nashville, Tenn. The Huskies will open their season Friday, Feb. 25 with a game against Belmont. They will then face Lipscomb on Saturday and Vanderbilt on Sunday to complete the tournament.
The Huskies then travel to Bradenton, Fla., and Millington, Tenn., for a spring break road swing March 4-9. While in Florida, UConn will play Mount St. Mary's, Central Michigan, Bowling Green, Holy Cross, Sacred Heart and Maine. Huskies will then head north to Tennessee to face Arkansas-Little Rock, Memphis, Indiana State and Tennessee-Martin.
UConn will play its first game in the state of Connecticut on March 16 when they take on Sacred Heart in Bridgeport-Harbor Yard. The Huskies then take their final trip down south to play Centenary in a three game series March 19-20 in Shreveport, La.
Connecticut begins its BIG EAST Conference schedule with a doubleheader at St. John's on March 24. In league action, the Huskies will also travel to Villanova (March 26), 2004 BIG EAST Champion Notre Dame (April 16-17), Rutgers (April 23-24) and Seton Hall (May 14-15).
At J.O. Christian Field, UConn will play host to BIG EAST opponents West Virginia (April 2-3), Pittsburgh (April 9-10), Georgetown (April 30-May1) and Boston College (May 20-21). Other non-conference home opponents include UMass, Siena, Yale and Fairfield.
