Jessee, Gjertsen Receive BIG EAST Weekly Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Oct. 18) - Junior Megan Jessee (Orefield, Pa.) raked in her second-consecutive BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week award, while senior forward Jessica Gjertsen (Stony Plain, Alberta) collected Offensive Player of the Week honors as announced by the BIG EAST conference on Monday, Oct. 18.
Jessee extended her shutout streak this past week to four games and 438:14 total minutes, blanking Brown on Wednesday, Oct. 13 and BIG EAST foe Villanova in Sunday, Oct. 17. Jessee had four saves against the Bears and eight vs. the Wildcats. She has not allowed a goal since 4:38 into the Georgetown game on Oct. 3, and now has seven shutouts on the year with four of her last five coming on the road.
Gjertsen registered a goal Oct. 13 against Brown and then scored two at Villanova on Oct. 18 for a six-point week. Gjertsen scored the game-winning goal just 16:09 into the game in a 3-0 win over the Wildcats. She now leads the team in goals with eight. Gjertsen has two two-goal games and three multi-point games this season.
Connecticut looks to continue its four-game shutout streak and six-game winning streak while playing host at Morrone Stadium to three teams in the upcoming week. On Wednesday, Oct. 20, the Huskies face Central Connecticut at 5:00 p.m. Pittsburgh then comes to town on Friday, Oct. 22 at 7:00 p.m. for UConn's final BIG EAST match-up of the regular season.
