Huskies Named to NY Lottery MAAC All-Academic Team

STORRS, CT (March 25) – Seniors DJ Miller (Mount Lebanon, PA) and Kurt Kamienski (Pittsfield, MA) and sophomore Adam Rhein (Cottage Grove, MN) were named to the New York Lottery Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Academic Team, as announced by the league office.
Miller, earning the honor for the second straight season, is a Political Science major with a 3.42 grade point average. A forward, Miller notched a team-leading 13 goals, plus added eight assists for 48 points in his 31 games played in 2002-03. Overall, Miller ends his career at UConn after three seasons having scored 28 goals and 20 assists for 48 points.
Kamienski is donned with the honor for the third straight season. He is a Biomechanics major with a 3.249 grade point average. Kamienski led the team in points (30) and assists (20), plus added 10 goals. He ends his four-year career having played in 120 games, scoring 32 goals and 52 assists for 84 total points.
Rhein is a first All-Academic honoree as a Husky, but was named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team during the 2001-02 season. Rhein is a Business major with a 3.556 grade point average. A defenseman, Rhein played in 33 games notching two goals and eight assist for 10 points from the blueline in 2002-03.
Including the UConn trio, 49 members were named to the New York Lottery All-Academic Team for the 2002-03 season. Iona sophomore Trevor McCall owns the highest grade point average in the MAAC Hockey league with a 3.89 in Business.
To earn a spot in the New York Lottery All-Academic Team, nominees must have completed two semesters at the institution, must be a starter or significant reserve and must hold at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for his entire career.
