STORRS, CT (December 4) – University of Connecticut women’s soccer players Kristen Graczyk (Albuquerque, MN) and Zahra Jalalian (Auburn, WA) were named to the New England Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) All-New England Team, as announced Thursday afternoon. Graczyk was named to the All-New England First Team and will be added to the national All-American ballot, while Jalalian was an All-New England Second Team honoree.
A junior, Graczyk leads the 2003 squad in all categories, scoring 18 goals and 12 assists for 48 points, including seven game-winning tallies. She recently scored her 100th career point and became UConn’s all-time leader in goals scored and points during NCAA Tournament play in UConn’s second round victory over Central Connecticut. She was named the 2003 BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year, and to the All-BIG EAST First Team.
Also a junior, Jalalian has help to anchor the Connecticut defense, while also seeing some time in the midfield, playing and starting in all 22 Husky games in 2003. She added her only goal of the season in UConn’s win over Virginia Tech on September 30.
No. 18 Connecticut will square-off with No. 12 Florida State in the Huskies' seventh appearance in the NCAA College Cup on Friday, December 5 at 12:00 noon in at SAS Soccer Park in Cary, NC. The game will be televised nationally by ESPN2, and the winner of the contest will face either UCLA or North Carolina for the National Championship.
