STORRS, CT (October 29) -- First year University of Connecticut baseball coach Jim Penders announced the 2004 schedule on Wednesday. UConn’s schedule includes a total of 14 games against seven teams that participated in the 2003 NCAA Division I Collegiate Baseball Championship and is highlighted by an opening trip to Tempe, AZ to take on 2003 NCAA Division I Super Regional participant, Arizona State from February 27-29. Arizona State took eventual College World Series participant Cal-State Fullerton to decisive game three in the super regional.
After the trip to Tempe, UConn will play an eight day, eight game loop in Jacksonville, FL at the Kennel Club Classic from March 6-13. The Huskies will square off with their second Super Regional opponent, Ohio State on March 6th, and will also take the field with host and NCAA Tournament participant, Jacksonville on March 9.
"Our schedule is a very challenging one and we are very excited to open our season against one of the nation’s premiere programs in Arizona State," said Penders. "We have 17 games before out BIG EAST opener at Villanova, and these games will prepare us for the rigors we will see in BIG EAST competition."
Besides Notre Dame, UConn will also play host to BIG EAST foes, St John’s April 8, Seton Hall April 10, and West Virginia May 22-23. The 2004 schedule includes a total of 56 games, the most ever played by the UConn baseball program.
