Huskies Fall to Ohio State, 6-2

COLUMBUS, OH (November 17) – The University of Connecticut women’s ice hockey team split a pair of road games this weekend as they fell to Ohio State, 6-2, on Sunday after beating Findlay, 2-0 on Saturday. The Huskies stand at 4-6-0, 1-1 Hockey East as Ohio State improves to 3-8-1, 2-5-1 WCHA.
Ohio State started the scoring late in the first as Jeni Creary broke through at 15:48 from Meaghan Mulvaney and Erin O’Grady. Mulvaney added one of her own in the second, as the Buckeyes took a two-goal lead. Connecticut was able to cut their deficit to one when Jacquelyn McGuire (Glenview, IL) scored her first tally of the season from Erika Spaeth (Dallas, TX) at the 12:10 mark. OSU moved ahead by two again just 23 seconds later when O’Grady scored her third point of the game on her first goal of the season. Melissa Pirie added Ohio State’s fourth to send the teams into the second intermission with a score of 4-1.
The Buckeyes scored a pair of power play goals in the third, one from Jeni Creary and the other from Emma Laaksonen to give OSU a 6-1 lead. UConn was able to get one more on the board at 14:30, when Janelle Armitage (Kinsella, Alberta) scored from Dani Aud (Riverwoods, IL).
The Huskies were out-shot 31-14 as Shannon Murphy (Mapleville, RI) stopped 20 but allowed five goals for the loss. Kaitlyn Shain (Calgary, Alberta) added five saves and allowed one goal. Ohio State’s April Stojak saved 12 in net.
Connecticut returns home on Friday, November 22 when they play host to Niagara at 7 p.m. at the UConn Ice Arena.
