Huskies roll in 5-0 win over Miami

CORAL GABLES, FL (September 28) – Alexa Borisjuk (North Haven, CT) led the University of Connecticut women’s soccer team to its fourth straight shutout, fifth this season, over No. 17 nationally-ranked University of Miami in a BIG EAST Northeast Division match-up at Cobb Stadium in Coral Gables, FL on Friday night. The two teams played in a steady downfall of rain, improving the No. 11 Huskies to 6-2-0 overall, 3-0-0 in the BIG EAST, while Miami fell to 6-2-0 overall, 1-1-0 in the conference.
With the win head coach Len Tsantiris earned his 350th career-win, and remains 3-0 against Miami who joined the league three years ago.
Kaycee McElree (Davis, CA) opened the scoring and gave the Huskies the only goal they needed for the win 28:47 into the game. She chipped the ball from the right side 25-yards out. Miami keeper Rachel Elsby jumped up to make the save but fell back down over the goal line for the UConn score. Six minutes later, Abby Shepard (Milford, MI) scored her first collegiate goal on an assist from Lauren Naida (Suffield, CT).
Kristen Graczyk (Albuquerque, NM) began the second half scoring at the 72:25 mark tallying her team-leading seventh goal of the season. Sarah Popper (Penn Yan, NY) and Borisjuk assisted on the score. Borisjuk notched her first goal of the evening with just under ten minutes remaining in the game with an assist coming from Popper. Her last goal came seven minutes later on an assist from McElree.
Erin Rice (Keller, TX) recorded four saves in net, while Rachel Elsby and Elizabeth Swinson combined for six saves. UConn made one team save, while Miami had four.
The Huskies return home on Sunday to host BIG EAST opponent Providence College at 1:00 p.m. at Morrone Stadium in Storrs.
