Eleven New Incoming Freshmen for the 2001-02 Season

STORRS, CT—University of Connecticut men’s ice hockey coach Bruce Marshall has announced eleven new incoming freshmen for the 2001-02 season. The group features six forwards, four defensemen and one goaltender.
The Huskies return 23 letterwinnners, after losing only four to graduation in the spring of 2001. The Huskies open their 2001-02 regular season on Friday, October 19 at 7:30 p.m. against Iona College at the UConn Ice Arena in Storrs. Connecticut has a 34-game schedule including non-conference opponents UMass-Lowell, UMass-Amherst, Bemidji State, Vermont, Providence, Brown and a possible match-up against Air Force at the SNET/UConn Classic. The Huskies also play a competitive 26-game Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference schedule.
Jon Ames ­ Forward (6-3, 200) ­ Baldwinsville, NY (Syracuse Crunch ­OPJHL) Ames played with the Syracuse Crunch for two season (1999-2001). He led the team in scoring both seasons and was among the top ten in points in the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League (OPJHL).
Mike Brickley ­ Forward (6-0, 210) ­ Wallingford, CT (Valley Junior
Warriors ­EJHL) Brickley played the 2000-01 season with the Warriors where he was named an Eastern Junior Hockey League All-Star. Before the Warriors he played with the Cedar Rapids (USHL), and was also a two-year member of the US National U-18 Team.
Patrick Donlan ­ Forward (6-0, 185) ­ Norwell, MA (Berkshire Prep School) Played his post graduate season at the Berkshire Prep School in Sheffield, MA. Before Berkshire he earned two varsity letters from Thayer Academy in Braintree, MA.
Michael Hoffman ­ Defense (6-6, 238) ­ Scituate, MA (Chicago Steel ­USHL) Hoffman played the 2000-01 season with the Chicago Steel (USHL). He was a two-time Hockey Night in Boston All-Star selection and was named to the 1999 Prospectus College NCAA Tournament Team in Ontario, Canada. Jonathan Jepson ­ Defense (6-0, 175) ­ Toledo, OH (Chicago Freeze ­ NAHL) Jepson was a member of the Chicago Freeze (NAHL) for the 2000-01 season. He was a top defenseman in the league and was named to the NAHL All-Star team. Jepson notched one goal and 24 assists for 25 points.
Patrick McLaughin ­ Defense (6-0, 180) ­ Virginia Beach, VA (Northwood School) McLaughin played four years of varsity hockey at the Northwood School in Lake Placid, NY.His senior season he tallied 41 points on 19 goals and 22 assists.
Paul Morrissey ­ Goaltender (6-0, 185) ­ Winchester, MA (Des Moines Buccaneers — USHL) Morrissey played two seasons for the Buccaneers. He received the Vick Allen Community Service Award and was a onetime Defensive Player of the Week selection. He played in 11 games ending the 2000-01 season with a 3.18 goals against average.
Mark Murphy ­ Forward (6-2, 170) ­ Jamestown, RI (Dubuque Fighting Saints ­ USHL) Murphy played his last two seasons in the USHL. During the 1999 season, he was with the Des Moines Buccaneers and in 2000 he moved to the Dubuque Fighting Saints.
Justin Postiglione — Forward (5-8, 190) ­ Philadelphia, PA (Exeter Snow Devils ­ EJHL) Postiglione was a two-year member of the Exeter Snow Devils (EJHL). He broke a single season scoring record for the Snow Devils during the 1999-00 season, and was second in points with 74 this past season.
Adam Rhein ­ Defense (6-0, 180) ­ Cottage Grove, MN (Great Falls
Americans ­ AWHL) During his one season with the Americans, Rhein was voted to the All-AWHL Team and helped lead the team to the crowning of the Borne Cup for the conference championship.
Mike Wauterlek ­ Forward (6-2, 180) ­ Barrington, IL (Bismark Bobcats ­ AWHL) Wauterlek competed with Bismarck Bobcats (AWHL) during the 2000-01, and before that in 1999-00, he played 44 games with the Danville Wings (NAHL).
