CHESTNUT HILL, MA (October 7) – A goal and an assist by Meghan Moore helped lead Boston College past the University of Connecticut women’s soccer team, 2-0, at the Newton Campus Soccer Field on Sunday afternoon in a BIG EAST Northeast Division match-up. With the win, Boston College breaks a 13-game losing streak against the Huskies, and brings the series record to 24-4-2 in favor of UConn.
The loss drops Connecticut to 8-4-0 overall, 5-1-0 in the conference. The game marks the first BIG EAST regular season loss for the Huskies in 35 match-ups, dating back to October 26, 1997 when UConn lost 1-0 to Notre Dame. Boston College improves its record to 4-5-1 overall, 2-2-1 in the BIG EAST.
Just 2:22 into the game Moore settled a corner kick dumped into the offensive box. She took a few dribbles and sent the ball to the far post where Lindsay Fairweather headed a shot into the opposite corner for the score. Moore scored her goal at the 57:08 mark.
UConn’s Erin Rice (So., Keller, TX) made six saves in net, while Elyse Meredith stopped 10 UConn shots on goal. The Huskies outshot the Eagles, 18-11, despite the loss.
UConn will travel to West Virginia University on Friday, October 12 for a BIG EAST non-divisional match-up in Morgantown, VA.
