Huskies Fall to UMass Lowell 6-0

LOWELL, MA (October 20) – The University of Massachusetts Lowell men’s ice hockey team scored four second period goals in a time span of three minutes to skate past the University of Connecticut 6-0 at the Paul E. Tsongas Arena in Lowell, MA on Saturday afternoon. Both teams are coming off games played last evening including an overtime game for the Huskies.
Massachusetts continues to maintain the series advantage at 17-5-1, outscoring the Huskies 25-2 in the last three meetings. With the loss UConn drops to 0-1-1 on the season, while UMass improves to 3-0-0.
Peter Hay opened the scoring ten minutes into the first period. The teams played scoreless for the remainder of the period with the River Hawks outscoring the Huskies 15-6.
The second period scoring began at the 16:34 mark when a delayed penalty was called on UConn and UMass pulled the goalie and added the extra man on the ice giving Anders Strome his first tally of the year. Just under one minute later, Baptiste Amar nailed a shot into the upper right corner of the net from the opposite side of the blueline. At 18:22 Tom Rouleau netted the River Hawk’s fourth goal of the game, followed by a tally from Stephen Slonina with thirty-six seconds remaining in the stanza during a four-on-four situation.
Yorik Treille scored a power play tally 4:25 into the third period for the only score of the stanza
Freshman Paul Morrissey (Winchester, MA) earned his first collegiate start in net stopping 29 shots on goal allowing five goals in two periods played. Artie Imbriano (Stoneham, MA) allowed one goal making 7 saves. UMass Lowell’s goalie Cam McCormick had 15 saves in net. The River Hawks outshot the Huskies, 42-15.
The Huskies return to the ice for a two game stint at Bemidji State University on October 26 and 27 in Bemidji, MN.
