Mary Frances-Monroe Named to NSCAA All-America Second Team

Monroe was selected as a First Team All-American her freshman year and in the 1999 season she was named a Second Team All-American. Starting and playing in all of UConns 26 games this season, she finished the year third on the team in scoring with 16 points on six goals and four assists. Monroe was selected to the 2000 All-Big East First Team and to the NSCAA/adidas All-Northeast Region First Team as well as being named Hermann and M.A.C. Trophy finalist for the second straight season.
Monroe was one of four members of the UConn womens soccer team to be tabbed with NSCAA/adidas All-Northeast Region honors. Monroe earned first team accolades, while senior Jen Carlson (Shelburne, VT) and junior Casey Zimny (Rochester, NY) and Mary-Beth Bowie (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) were selected to the second team.
Connecticut ended the season with a 17-7-2 overall and a perfect 5-0 record in the Big East Northeast Division. UConn was crowned the Big East Northeast Regular Season Champions and then fell to Notre Dame in the finals of the Big East Tournament Championship game, 1-0. Twentieth- year head coach Len Tsantiris led the Huskies to their 19th consecutive NCAA Tournament berth and their eighth straight NCAA Quarterfinal appearance, the 15th overall year since the tournament began. UConn fell to the eventual 2000 Womens College Cup Champions North Carolina, 3-0, in a quarterfinal game held in Chapel Hill, NC, on Nov. 24.
