It was almost too easy.
``It wasn't as competitive as I would have liked it to be,'' coach Jim Calhoun said Tuesday. ``Individually I think we gained something ... collectively I don't think we did.''
The Huskies are ranked No. 13 and open at the Civic Center Friday with Quinnipiac.
The All-Stars, the Huskies second exhibition opponent, offered little resistance and lot of open looks and uncontested rebounds.
``But we have now played 80 minutes and that's good. Just getting out on the floor and having an official there, you can't duplicate that in practice,'' Calhoun said.
UConn didn't know who would be suiting up against them until 30 minutes before tip-off. The rival squad comprised former college players, including Ray Mickens and Tomas Brookins, members of last year's Central Connecticut NCAA team.
Mouring made the most of his open looks. He was a favorite target of freshman point guard Taliek Brown, who finished with 10 assists and 10 points.
The lack of competition didn't bother Brown.
``It felt kind of good. It just made everybody more confident in their game,'' he said. ``We're tired of playing each other in practice.''
Brown also had six rebounds in 22 minutes of work. Sophomore Marcus Cox ran the point as well and finished with 11 points and eight assists.
``I'm just trying to play hard and be consistent,'' said Cox.
Calhoun tinkered with different lineups and at times at Cox, Brown and speedy Tony Robertson on the floor at the same time. The result was speed, speed and more speed.
``We get the three guards in and we become quicker. I think it makes us a better ball team,'' Calhoun said.
Robertson finished with 14 points. Junior Johnnie Selvie had a game-high seven boards as the Huskies outrebounded the All-Stars 57-28.
Anthony Davis led the All-Stars with 12 points. Mickens had seven points and Brookins had six.
