Huskies Advance To BIG EAST Semi-Finals

Storrs, CT - Mary-Beth Bowie (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) of the University of Connecticut women's soccer team scored just over five minutes into overtime to defeat West Virginia by a score of 1-0 at Morrone Stadium in Storrs on Oct. 29. The game, played in freezing conditions and snow, was a BIG EAST quarterfinal matchup. UConn improves to 14- 5-2 while West Virginia drops to 15-5-0.
Bowie's goal was on a blast from the top of the box at the 95:26 mark of the overtime period. Connecticut had a number of chances throughout the game, outshooting the Mountaineers 17-4 and hitting two posts, but couldn't beat keeper Melissa Haire until the extra session. Sophomore goalie Maria Yatrakis (Brooklyn, NY) made just one save to earn the shutout.
Connecticut advances to the BIG EAST semifinal round on Friday, November 3 at Notre Dame in South Bend, IN. They will take on Syracuse at 5:00 p.m. The Orangewomen defeated the Rutgers Scarlet Knights by a score of 3-1 on Friday evening to advance the semifinals.
