While at UConn: Suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee in July, 2018, during summer workouts which required surgery to repair. Spent remainder of summer and fall in rehabilitation and is expected to make a full recovery and perhaps be available by late December or early January... Able to resume his college career in 2017-18 after being forced to sit out the 2016-17 season with a chronic knee condition, requiring treatment and rehabilitation throughout the year... Appeared in 31 of UConn’s 32 games in 2017-18, making five starts, and averaged 10.1 minutes per game... Played with Global Sports Academy college foreign tour team for three games in Spain in August, 2017.
As a Redshirt Freshman in 2017-18: Played in 31 games, starting five, and scored 83 points (2.7), grabbed 79 rebounds (2.5) and shot 54.8 percent overall. Showed potential to become a fierce rebounder and intimidating force near the basket... Had first career double-double (11 points, 10 rebounds) against Columbia... Had 8 points and 8 rebounds in 22 minutes against SMU in AAC Championship... Had 8 points and 6 rebounds in 23 minutes vs. Cincinnati... Had seven rebounds vs. Syracuse in Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden.
As a Freshman in 2016-17: After going through the rigorous preseason conditioning program and playing 10 minutes in UConn’s first exhibition game against New Haven, was disgnosed with significant patellofemoral syndrome, a condition that results in intense knee discomfort from the stress that high-level basketball competition demands... Sat out season, received treatment and rehabilitation throughout the year.
Before College: A consensus Top 100 recruit with a reputation as a tenacious rebounder... Played for 2 1/2 years at Putnam Science Academy under Coach Tom Espinosa, his final season as a post-graduate... Averaged 10.0 points and 7.5 rebounds in 2015-16, helping PSA to a 27-8 record and the national semifinals, where it lost to St. Thomas More.. As a senior, he averaged 9.9 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks... Left Putnam Science as the school’s second all-time rebounder, second in blocked shots, and in the top five in scoring... Selected to play in Jordan Brand Classic Regional Game, scoring 19 points on 9-of-10 shooting, and grabbing 3 rebounds to help Team New York to a 148-128 win... Began high school at Thomas Edison High in Queens, N.Y., making the varsity basketball team as a freshman and sophomore. Started junior year at prep school in South Carolina, but transferred to Putnam Science at mid-year. Played 14 games in that abbreviated season, averaging 5.0 points and 5.0 rebounds... Played AAU ball for the New York Jayhawks.
