One of the most decorated assistant coaches in the history of college basketball, Tom Moore is a four-time national champion who is completed his 20th overall season at UConn in 2024-25. He was an assistant for Jim Calhoun from 1994-07 before a successful head coaching stint, then returned to Connecticut on Dan Hurley's inaugural staff in 2018-19.
Ahead of the 2025-26 season, Moore officially transitioned into the program's General Manager, a role he held in concert with on-court duties since the outset of the NIL/Portal era.
Moore recently concluded the seventh season of his second stint as an assistant as Connecticut, 20th overall at UConn and his 38th season in coaching. He has been a part of four national championships (1999, 2004, 2023, 2024) on the UConn bench - most for any assistant coach in the modern era of the NCAA Tournament.
A 1987 graduate of Boston University, Moore immediately took to coaching and joined the staff at his hometown Worcester State as an assistant for the ‘87-88 season. After a season as an assistant at Assumption he returned to Worcester State as a 24-year old head coach. Moore spent five seasons at the helm of the Lancers from 1989-94 and compiled a 76-59 record.
Moore then joined the UConn staff ahead of the 1994-95 season. In his 13 seasons as an assistant to Jim Calhoun the program recorded its first two national championships while he played a role in developing the likes of Ray Allen, Khalid El-Amin, Rip Hamilton, Caron Butler, Ben Gordon, Emeka Okafor, Rudy Gay and countless other stars.
Moore moved south ahead of the 2007-08 season to take over as the head coach at Quinnipiac, where he spent the next 10 years. He compiled a 162-146 in Hamden as he led the Bobcats in their transition from the NEC to the MAAC. He was the 2010 NEC Coach of the Year and had four postseason appearances in the NIT, CBI and CIT over a six-year span during his tenure.
Following his time at QU, Moore linked up with Hurley for his final season at Rhode Island. After helping the Rams to a 26-8 record and the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament in 2017-18, he joined Hurley and returned to UConn.
In the seven seasons of his second stint, Moore helped the Huskies to the 2023 and 2024 back-to-back titles and five-straight NCAA Tournaments - tying a program record set from 2002-06 in his first stint. In addition to his on-court role he assisted heavily in UConn’s roster construction and NIL operations.
A native of Millbury, Mass., Moore and wife Eileen have three daughters; Elizabeth Rose, Catherine Grace, and Caroline Mary.
