Huskies Earn 3-1 Win Over Merrimack

STORRS, Conn. - UConn defeated Merrimack 3-1 on Saturday at the UConn Volleyball Center. The Huskies hit .291 with 50 kills and 12 blocks, while holding Merrimack to a .107 hitting percentage.
The Huskies closed the first set with seven straight points, including a Courtney Grayson kill, a Grayson block, two Maja Daca service aces and three Merrimack errors, to finish a 25-12 set win. Isabella Sohl directed the offense, assisting kills by Olivia Grenadier, Einarsdottir, Grayson, Borowy and Daca before adding a kill of her own. UConn also produced points at the net, including an Einarsdottir-Grenadier block and a Grayson-Daca block, before Daca's serving run carried the set to the finish.
The Huskies finished the second set with seven consecutive points, turning an 18-15 edge into a 25-15 win as Sohl served the final six points and Einarsdottir closed it with a kill from Sohl. The Huskies reached 15-11 on an Einarsdottir kill and a Maggie Carley service ace. After Merrimack stayed within 18-15, Grenadier started the closing stretch with a kill, Borowy added another, and Grenadier and Einarsdottir combined on a block.
The Huskies faced a 16-5 deficit in the third set and cut Merrimack's lead to 24-22 before the visitors finished off a 25-22 set. With UConn down 19-12, Einarsdottir's service turn produced four straight points, including blocks involving Audrey Jensen and Grayson and a Jensen kill. After Merrimack moved to set point at 24-20, Borowy delivered a kill and a service ace to bring UConn within two before a service error ended the set.
In the fourth set, UConn recovered from a 6-4 deficit with a stretch that included a Grenadier kill, a Jensen ace, a Merrimack setting error and a Grenadier-Daca block to move in front 10-7. Merrimack kept the set tight through the middle stages, tying it at 14-14, 15-15 and 16-16 before Borowy and Einarsdottir helped UConn answer late swings. After Merrimack led 19-17, Daca, Grayson and Einarsdottir were involved in points that brought UConn back level, setting up the 25-22 set and match victory.
Einarsdottir finished with 13 kills on .522 hitting, four block assists and a team-high 16 points. Grayson recorded nine total blocks, including three solo blocks, and added four kills. Borowy matched Einarsdottir with 13 kills while hitting .357 and adding five digs. Daca posted 10 kills, nine digs, four block assists and two service aces.
