STORRS, Conn. โย The UConn men's soccer team lost to the Seton Hall Pirates, 2-1 on Friday at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium. The Huskies are now 0-1 in BIG EAST play and 3-4-2 overall this season.ย
Seton Hall quickly took control, scoring twice in the opening 15 minutes of the match. The Pirates broke through in the 14thย minute, and then doubled their lead 74 seconds later, putting UConn in an early 2-0 hole.
UConn pushed to dig out of the early hole behind Elijah Langford, who generated most of the Huskies offense in the first half.ย Langfordย recorded four shots, including one on goal to close out the half. Seton Hall carried its two-goal advantage into halftime, with both teams generating six shots.ย
UConn goalkeeper Kyle Durham kept the Huskies within striking distance, making four saves in the first 15 minutes of the second half.ย
UConn was awarded a penalty kick in the 62ndย minute after a Seton Hall foul on Justin Hubbard inside the box. Preston Alessio stepped up and converted the penalty kick to pull the Huskies within a goal at 2-1. The goal marksย Alessio'sย second of the season.ย ย
UConn pressed for an equalizer, generating sustained possession over the final 25 minutes. The Huskies recorded seven shots during that stretch, forcing Seton Hall's goalkeeper to make two critical saves.ย
Despite UConn's late push, Seton Hall held on to snap the Huskies five-game unbeaten streak.ย
UConn generated more total shots than Seton Hall, 16-10, but the Pirates put seven attempts on goal to the Huskies four.ย Alessioย scored UConn's lone goal, finishing with four shots and two on goal.ย Langfordย also recorded four shots, putting one on goal.ย Durhamย finished with five saves. The match also featured 30 fouls and eight cards, with UConn assessed two cards and Seton Hall six.ย
