Nykesha Sales Returns to UConn as Assistant Coach

STORRS, Conn. – Former UConn women's basketball standout Nykesha Sales returns to the Basketball Capital of the World as an assistant coach, head coach Geno Auriemma announced Monday.
"Bringing Nykesha back to UConn is absolutely the best decision that we could make," Auriemma said. "Having our current players work with one of college basketball's best players and an all-time WNBA great is a dream come true. Kesha has become an accomplished coach, teacher and recruiter, and she will add a new dimension to our program."
"Returning to UConn is a full-circle moment for me," Sales said. "I'm incredibly grateful to Coach, CD, Mo and Tonya for welcoming me back to Storrs with open arms. Connecticut is home and where it all started. UConn obviously had a huge impact on my life and was such a foundational part of my success as a person, player and a coach. Being a part of this legacy again is an incredible honor. I'm extremely grateful and excited."
A native of Bloomfield, Conn., Sales was a member of UConn's first NCAA Championship-winning team in 1995. In her four seasons in Storrs from 1994-98, the Huskies made two NCAA Final Four appearances and won eight BIG EAST titles.
Sales finished her UConn career as the program's all-time leading scorer with 2,178 points. She currently ranks seventh in the Huskies' scoring records and is still UConn's career steals record holder with 447.
Sales was a two-time All-American and two-time All-BIG EAST First Team member at UConn. She was named the conference's Player of the Year in 1998, Defensive Player of the Year in 1997 and 1998 and the league's Freshman of the Year in 1995.
After UConn, Sales played nine seasons in the WNBA for the Orlando Miracle/Connecticut Sun franchise. She was an eight-time WNBA All-Star and earned All-WNBA Second Team in 2004. Sales led the Sun to two WNBA Finals and is still the franchise's all-time leading scorer (3,955 points).
Sales also played internationally in Europe from 2005-13.
Sales began her coaching career at UCF from 2016-22. The Golden Knights made three NCAA Tournament appearances in 2019, '21 and '22, and won The American's regular season and tournament titles in 2022.
Sales was an assistant coach for Georgia women's basketball from 2022-26. The Lady Bulldogs made two NCAA Tournament appearances with Sales.
Sales graduated from UConn in 1998 with a degree in business management. She was an inaugural member of the Huskies of Honor in 2006.
