Huskies Fall to Creighton Forcing Winner-Take-All Title Game

CHICAGO, Ill. – The No. 2 seed UConn softball team fell to the No. 3 seed Creighton Bluejays, 5-2 on Saturday afternoon, forcing a game seven in a winner-take-all matchup for the BIG EAST Championship.
Freshman Caprice Bohmer made her 23rd start of the season in the circle for the Huskies. Bohmer went 5.0 innings giving up three runs on six hits, adding six strikeouts.
Creighton took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning on a double in the right center field gap.
The Bluejays threatened in the top of the 2nd inning, loading the bases, but Bohmer managed to escape the jam, keeping it a one-score game.
Creighton doubled their lead to 2-0 in the top of the 3rd inning on a pair of two-out hits.
UConn chipped away at the deficit in the bottom of the 3rd inning with Kaitlyn Breslin getting the Huskies on the board on a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Savannah Ring from third base, making it a one-run game at 2-1.
Creighton extended its lead in the top of the 5th inning to 3-1 on a sacrifice fly.
Redshirt-junior Sydnee Koosh came on in relief for Bohmer in the 6th inning, making her 23rd appearance of the season. Koosh went on to pitch the rest of the game in the circle for the Huskies, going 2.0 innings, giving up two runs on four hits.
Creighton added a pair of key insurance runs in the top of the 7th inning, putting UConn in a 5-1 deficit.
The Huskies did not go down quietly in the bottom of the 7th inning, recording three straight hits to load the bases for the middle of the order. Breslin brought in her second RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Heidi Barber from third base to make it 5-2.
