Huskies Place Five on All-BIG EAST Teams

NEW YORK – Five softball student-athletes have garnered BIG EAST All-Conference honors, announced by the league on Wednesday afternoon. Cat Petteys and Jessica Walter earned first team honors while Caprice Bohmer, Kaitlyn Kibling, and Savannah Ring were named to the second team.
Five honorees mark the fifth year in a row UConn has received four or more All-Conference selections under head coach Laura Valentino.
Sophomore infielder Cat Petteys (Vestal, N.Y.) picks up All-BIG EAST First Team honors for the second consecutive year. Petteys has started in all 53 games at shortstop for the Huskies this season. She leads the team in hits (65), doubles (15, conference high), home runs (17, conference high), RBI (54), and runs scored (56, conference high). Her .385 batting average ranks fifth in the conference. She is one of just six players in the BIG EAST to have a slugging percentage over .700 this season (.799).
Graduate pitcher Jessica Walter (Middletown, Del.) earns her first All-BIG EAST nod of her career. After spending her first four years at Providence, Walter transferred into the Huskies program for her final collegiate season and has made an immediate impact in the circle for UConn, posting career highs in appearances (36), games started (15), innings pitched (101.1), and saves (9). She leads the Huskies pitching staff with a 3.45 era, ranking fourth in the conference.
Freshman pitcher Caprice Bohmer (Ashburn, Va.) receives her first All-BIG EAST honors of her career after putting together an impressive rookie campaign in the circle. She has led the Huskies pitching staff in wins (12), games started (22), complete games (6), and innings pitched (117.2). Her 120 strikeouts this season ranks second in the conference this season. Bohmer posted an 8-2 record in BIG EAST play this season, logging 51 strikeouts, ranking third in the conference.
Senior outfielder Kaitlyn Kibling (LaFayette, N.Y.) earns her first career All-BIG EAST honors. Kibling, a team captain this season has had a career year at the plate in her final collegiate season in Storrs, posting career highs in batting average (.276), hits (35), doubles (6), triples (5), home runs (6), RBI (25), and runs scored (40). A tone setter at the top of the Huskies lineup, Kibling owns a .411 on base percentage with 29 walks this year. She has played in all 53 games in center field this season, posting a .990 fielding percentage with 95 putouts and two assists, only committing one error.
Senior infielder Savannah Ring (Wyckoff, N.J.) picks up her first All-BIG EAST honors of her career. Ring has started in all 53 games at second base this season, recording career highs in batting average (.344), hits (63), doubles (12), home runs (4), RBI (30), and runs scored (40). Ring has been a consistent hitter at the top of the lineup this season with 34 hits in league play, ranking third in the conference. Her .397 on base percentage this season ranks fifth on the Huskies roster.
