Husky Men & Women Lead After Day Two of BIG EAST Championship

STORRS, CT – The UConn Huskies wrapped up the second day of competition at the 2026 BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championships presented by JEEP and will carry a lead on both the men's and women's side into the final day on Saturday.
Through eight scored events, the UConn women have tallied up 117 points and are in first place with DePaul in second (46 pts) and Providence in third (38 pts). On the men's side, the Huskies have scored 92 points through the first eight scored events and lead the field with Butler in second (55 pts) and Marquette in third (43 pts).
Saturday is the final day of competition and will get underway at 12 noon on the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex in Storrs. The final day will feature the finals on the track in the 4x100m relay, 1500m, 100m hurdles, 400m, 100m, 800m, 400m hurdles, 200m, 4x800m relay, and 4x400m relay. The finals of the women's discus, high jump, triple jump and javelin and men's pole vault, javelin, discus, and triple jump will also take place. The awards ceremony is scheduled for 3:15 pm.
On the track…
Senior Sarah Trainor took home a gold medal for the Huskies in the 3000m steeplechase. Trainor clocked in at 9:59.80 to best the field and claim the final gold of the day for UConn. Junior Malin Rahm was fifth in 10:32.66 and freshman Caitlin Thomas was sixth thanks to a personal best time of 10:36.01 to score of UConn.
In the men's 3000m steeplechase, the Huskies got a bronze medal as junior Daniel Hilmer came home third with a time of 9:05.76. UConn got points from freshman Christian Menounos in fourth at 9:06.67.
UConn grabbed points in the 5,000m in the final women's race of the day as freshman Sascha Letica finished seventh at 17:16.04 and senior Chloe Trudel in eighth at 17:18.28.
In the field…
UConn went gold-silver in the high jump with sophomore Enaji Muhammed leading the way. Muhammad won gold by clearing the bar at 2.16m, a new personal best height and ranked 30th in the Division I collegiate outdoor rankings this season. Freshman Derek Shimer was in second place, taking silver with a height of 2.06m.
Senior Rachel Mason earned the gold in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.85m. UConn also grabbed the bronze in the event as junior Katherine Floering posted a new personal best height at 3.65m. The Huskies got points from Piper Linn in fourth (3.65m) and Abigail Bernas in eighth (3.20m)
In the long jump, freshman Brooklyn Taylor posted a new personal best to take home the silver. Taylor was second in the field with a leap of 6.26m. Sophomore Maresa Hense scored in fourth place at 6.03m and Alyssa Elliott was eighth at 5.70m.
Freshman Marshall Potter added another silver medal on Friday, finishing second in the shot put with a toss of 17.87m. Potter took second in the hammer on Thursday. Seniors Nicholas Connolly and John Foster each scored in the event, finishing fourth (15.54m) and sixth (15.27m), respectively.
Freshman Ella Karp took the silver in the shot put, posting a season-best throw of 13.65m. Senior Sinclaire Fryer was able to pick-up points with a fifth-place finish at 13.30m.
Junior Michael Johnson scored in the long jump with a season-best leap of 6.45m, good for fifth.
In the decathlon…
The Huskies swept all three medals in the decathlon led by grad student Diarmuid O'Connor who claimed the gold with 7,553 points. O'Connor won seven of the 10 events over the two days. On Thursday he took the 100m (11.14), the long jump (7.00m), the shot put (14.66m) and the 400m (48.85). On Friday he opened the day with a win in the 110m hurdles (14.98) and also won the pole vault (4.30m) and closed the day with a win in the 1500m (4:24.48).
Junior Dar Jankovic took silver with 6,797 points. He had a win in the high jump at 2.10m and tied for the top spot with O'Connor in the pole vault at 4.30m. Senior Max Ringwall finished Friday with wins in the discus (40.79m) and the javelin (58.75m) and took home the bronze medal with 6,500 points.
In the heptathlon…
The Huskies had another clean sweep in the heptathlon with freshman Ruby Tillson leading the way with a gold thanks to 5,363 points. She took first place finishes in the 100m hurdle (13.75) and in the high jump (1.70m).
Grad student Alyssa Elliott was the silver medal winner with 5,233 total points. Elliott finished off the day on Friday with a win in the 800m, clocking in at 2:16.48
Junior Audrey Kozak took home the bronze with 5,137 points and grabbed wins in the 200m (24.37) and long jump (5.56m). Sophomore Mackenzie Braunstein picked up points for UConn in fourth place with 4,849 points.
