Day One of BIG EAST Championships In The Books

STORRS, CT – The UConn Huskies wrapped up the first day of competition at the 2026 BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championships presented by JEEP on Thursday at their home on the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex in Storrs.
Day one saw a pair of scored events on the men's and women's side and the first day of multi-events in the heptathlon and decathlon. Competition picks-up on Friday at noon with the continuation of multi-event competition with track events starting at 2 pm and field events at 3 pm.
On the track…
In the lone race of the day, senior Chloe Trudel finished third to grab the bronze, clocking in at 34:01.88. Scoring for the Huskies in the event was senior Loghan Hughes in sixth at 36:57.72, senior Megan Minicucci in seventh at 37:03.77, a personal best, and senior Jacqueline Izzo in eighth at 38:25.51
In the field…
In the women's hammer, junior Gabriela DeFelice took home silver with a throw of 52.25m
On the men's side in the hammer, UConn took silver and bronze and had three of the top-four finishers. Freshman Marshall Potter grabbed his first medal in an outdoor championship, claiming silver with a throw of 62.06m
Senior Alex Krause was the bronze winner with a heave of 59.66m. Freshman Lucas DeCrescenzo grabbed points with a fourth-place finish at 56.63m.
In the decathlon…
Grad student Diarmuid O'Connor leads after five events with a total of 3,934 points. O'Connor won four of the five events on Thursday, taking the 100m (11.14), the long jump (7.00m), the shot put (14.66m) and the 400m (48.85). He finished third in the high jump at 1.83m.
Junior Dar Jankovic is second with 3,557 points with a win in the high jump at 2.10m
In the heptathlon…
Freshman Ruby Tillson is in the lead after four events with 3,276 total points and first place finishes in the 100m hurdles in 13.75 seconds and in the high jump at 1.70m.
Audrey Kozak sits second with 3,172 points and a win in the 200m in 24.37 seconds. Alyssa Elliott is third with 3,052 points and Mackenzie Braunstein is fourth with 3,030 points.
