Huskies Set a New Record during 103th Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The UConn men's and women's track & field team had a strong showing at the 130th running of the Penn Relays this weekend at the historic Franklin Field in Philadelphia.Â
The Huskies came home with a new school record in the distance medley relay. The team of Brooke Strauss, Anna Connors, Sarah Trainor and Sascha Letica won with a time of 11:08.87. The foursome set a new UConn and Penn Relay Event Record besting a 2023 mark of 11:19.09 set by South Carolina.
Thursday
- Jessica Starr finished 14th in the 400m hurdles (Championship Division) at 58.94 seconds, setting a new personal best time in the event.
- Sarah Trainor took second in the 3,000m steeplechase (Championship) and set a new personal best time at 9:56.25.
- In the 5,000m (Championship), Sascha Letica came home seventh overall and clocked in at 15:48.21, a new personal best time.
- Chloe Trudel turned in third place finish in the 10,000m (Championship) with a time of 33:54.53 to set a new personal best mark.
- For the men, Orenthal Singletary was 17th in the 400m hurdles (Championship) at 52.51 seconds.
- In the field events, Marshall Potter won the hammer throw (College) with his best throw coming in at 62.61m on his final toss of the day. He set a new personal best on the day. Alex Krause was eighth at 58.76m and Lucas DeCrescenzo was 10th at 56.74m, a new personal best.
- Gabriela DeFelice was 10th in the hammer throw (College) with her best toss coming in at 53.53m, a new career-long throw.
Friday
- Women's Distance Medley Relay (College Division) - The UConn team of Brooke Strauss, Anna Connors, Sarah Trainor and Sascha Letica won with a time of 11:08.87. The foursome set a new UConn and Penn Relay Event Record besting a 2023 mark of 11:19.09 set by South Carolina.
- Men's Distance Medley Relay (College Division) – UConn team of Mason Brosious, Noah Colangelo, Gabriel Cuffey, Christian Menounos finished fifth with a time of 9:46.20.
- The UConn 4x100 (College Division) relay team of Mia Dansby, Sarah Claflin, Audrey Kozak, Brooklyn Taylor qualified for the final, clocking in at 46.97 seconds.
- After winning the hammer throw on Thursday, Potter came back on Friday and captured the shot put (College) title as well. He posted his best throw of 17.99m on each of his last two throws of the day.
- Rachel Mason was Friday's winner in the pole vault (College), clearing a height of 3.90m
- In the women's discus (College), DeFelice took second place with a throw of 48.98m, a new personal best.
- Derek Shimer took second place in the high jump (College), clearing a height of 2.11m.
- In the women's high jump (College), Kaylee Meyer was fifth overall with a height of 1.70m.
- In the women's long jump (College), Jaidah Garrett finished second in the field with a leap of 6.06m. Maresa Hense was seventh with a leap of 5.80m.
- In the women's shot put, Sinclaire Fryer was 11th with a throw of 13.62m.
Saturday
- Brooklyn Taylor ran in the finals of the 100m hurdles and finished seventh with a time of 14.05.
- The men's 4x800 (College) team of Mason Brosious, Gabriel Cuffey, Kyle Jeffers, John Canale finished 14th in 7:40.41.
- In the high jump (Championship), Enaji Muhammad tied for sixth overall with a height of 2.06m.
- In the javelin (Championship), Thomas Bannon was third overall with a throw of 65.99m.
Up Next
The Huskies will have one final tune-up before hosting the 2026 BIG EAST Championship on Campus in mid-May. UConn travels up to Boston for the Jay Carisella and Joe Donahue Coaches Invitational being held at Northeastern next Saturday, May 2.Â
