Huskies Fall in Series Finale at Seton Hall

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The UConn softball team dropped the series finale at Seton Hall on Sunday afternoon, falling 8-5 at Mike Sheppard Field.
Sophomore Amber Bretton made her first career start for the Huskies. Bretton pitched 1.0 inning giving up three runs on three hits.
UConn jumped out to an early lead in the top of the 1st inning, scoring four runs on four hits. Sophomore infielder Cat Petteys jump started the Huskies offense, homering on the fifth pitch of the game to left center field, her seventh of the season, giving UConn the early edge. Later in the inning, freshman utility Emma Willers hit an RBI single to right center field, scoring Kaitlyn Breslin and Haley Coupal. Two batters later, another UConn freshman delivered an RBI hit as Ava Calciano doubled to right center field, scoring Willers all the way from first base, extending the Huskies lead to 4-0.
Seton Hall responded in the bottom of the 1st inning, scoring three runs to trim into the deficit, 4-3.
Sophomore Alexandra Bacher came on in relief for Bretton in the second inning, making her 11th appearance of the season. Bacher went 0.2 inning, giving up one earned run on two hits.
Seton Hall took the lead for good in the bottom of the 2nd inning, scoring a pair of runs to take a 5-4 lead.
Redshirt-junior Sydnee Koosh came on in relief for Bacher during the 2nd inning, making her 10th appearance this season. Koosh pitched 1.2 innings giving up two runs on two hits with a strikeout.
Seton Hall extended its lead in the bottom of the 4th inning on a three-run home run, giving UConn its largest deficit of the game at 8-4.
Graduate Jessica Walter came on in relief for Koosh during the bottom of the 5th inning, making her 19th appearance in the circle this season. Walter went on to close out the game for the Huskies on the mound. She gave up one run on two hits, adding a strikeout.
UConn had opportunities to erase the deficit, as they loaded the bases in the 6th inning, but the Huskies could not find a key hit to bring any runs across.
In the top of the 7th inning, senior outfielder Kaitlyn Kibling hit a home run in her second straight game, a solo shot to right center field, making it a three-run game, 8-5.
