Huskies Continue Reign Over Big East

CHICAGO, Ill. - UConn men's and women's track and field each won their fifth consecutive BIG EAST Indoor Championship on Saturday, continuing their conference dominance in Chicago.
The men's side won the BIG EAST for the fifth year in a row with 194 points, defeating runner-up DePaul by 81 points.to bring the title back to Storrs for the 14th time overall. The women's side won their fifth indoor championship in a row with 169 points, finishing thirty-three points ahead of second-place DePaul to win their seventh indoor BIG EAST crown. This is the ninth occurrence of dual championships on the men's and women's sides in program history.Â
UConn's Joshua Mooney was named Most Outstanding Field Performer, placing first in the heptathlon with 5,717 points. The UConn coaching staff earned Men's and Women's Coaching Staff of the Year awards.
The Huskies claimed 23 medals, crowning eight BIG EAST Champions.
Multi-Events:
- Mooney set a new school record in the heptathlon with 5,717 points. Diarmuid O'Connor (5,690 points) secured silver and Dar Jankovic finished third for the bronze with 5,183 points to complete the sweep. Michael Johnson finished fourth with 5,109 points.
Women's Track:
- Brooklyn Taylor secured the silver medal in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.46.
- Anna Connors prevailed in the 400m, winning the gold with a time of 54.33.
Men's Track:
- Mohamed Wahdan, Wyatt Gravier, and Jordon Quinn swept the 60m hurdles for the Huskies, with respective times of 7.92, 8.13, and 8.15.
- Medwin Odammten won the gold medal with a time of 6.70. Damon Simpson claimed the bronze medal with a time of 6.75.
- The team of Del Lindsay, TJ Jaravaza, Peyton Butler and Gabriel Cuffey took the silver in the 4x400m with a time of 3:11.57.
Women's Field:
- Sinclaire Fryer won the bronze medal in the shot put, with a throw of 13.73m.
- Kaylee Meyer finished second in the high jump at 1.70m.
Men's Field:
- Enaji Muhammad claimed the silver medal in the high jump at 2.01m.
- Marshall Potter won the shot put at 17.97m. Jack Foster secured the bronze at 16.64m.
- Emi Erekosima secured the silver medal in the triple jump at 15.16m.
