No. 6 Huskies Fall to No. 5 Northeastern in Overtime

STORRS, Conn. - The No. 6-ranked UConn women's hockey team fell to the No. 5-ranked Northeastern Huskies in overtime by a score of 3-2 on Friday evening at the Toscano Family Ice Forum.
UConn grabbed the early advantage four minutes into the first period, with junior center Ashley Allard lighting the lamp for her ninth goal of the season, converting on assists from sophomore forward Claire Murdoch and senior forward Kyla Josifovic. Northeastern evened the score on the power play, thanks to a goal from Rylie Jones. Graduate goaltender Tia Chan kept Northeastern at bay, making nine saves in the frame. With thirty-four seconds left in the first, sophomore forward Claire Murdoch put UConn back in front, scoring her eighth goal of the season to give the hosts a 2-1 lead at the first intermission.
Both defenses buckled down in the second period, with Chan and Northeastern goaltender Lisa Jönsson making key stops. UConn had multiple chances in the period, but Jönsson continued to come up big for the visitors to keep the deficit at 2-1. Freshman forward Stryker Zablocki brought Northeastern level at 2-2, scoring with 3:34 left in the period.
UConn peppered the net with chances in a tightly contested third period, tallying 14 shots to amplify the pressure on the Northeastern defense. Jönsson was up to the challenge, keeping the score tied with key stops to send the game into overtime.
One minute into overtime, Morgan Jackson scored the game-winner for Northeastern, as the Hockey East regular season champs secured the 3-2 victory.
