No. 1 UConn to Face Villanova Wednesday

STORRS, Conn. – The top-ranked UConn women's basketball team (27-0, 16-0 BIG EAST) takes on Villanova (21-5, 14-3) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Finneran Pavilion in Villanova, Pa. The game will air on peacock/NBC Sports Network and the UConn Sports Network from Learfield (The River 105.9).
With a win Wednesday, UConn will clinch at least a share of the 2025-26 BIG EAST regular season title. The Huskies have won every BIG EAST regular season championship since rejoining the league in 2020.
Including BIG EAST Tournament games, the Huskies have won 63 straight league games.
Graduate student Azzi Fudd had 25 points and sophomore Sarah Strong scored 22 as UConn beat Marquette, 71-56, in Milwaukee on Saturday. Fudd scored 17 of her points in the first half while Strong scored 19 of her points in the second half. Junior KK Arnold, a native of Germantown, Wis., had 10 points, a career-high nine assists and six rebounds.
For the second straight week, Fudd was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday. In two wins last week, Fudd averaged 22.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game while shooting 54.5% from the field and 66.7% from beyond the arc.
UConn is 48-18 all-time vs. Villanova. The teams last met on Jan. 15 in Storrs, a 99-50 win for the Huskies. Sophomore Sarah Strong led UConn with 24 points, nine rebounds and five blocks in the game.
UConn head coach Geno Auriemma is a native of Norristown, Pa., which is approximately nine miles from Villanova.
Villanova has won its last six games, most recently a 74-64 victory over Creighton on Sunday. This season, Jasmine Bascoe leads the Wildcats with 18.1 points per game. Head coach Denise Dillon is in her sixth season at Villanova.
On Sunday, the Huskies host Providence in their regular season Gampel Pavilion finale for Senior Day at noon. After the game, UConn will honor its seniors: Ice Brady, Caroline Ducharme, Azzi Fudd, Ayanna Patterson and Serah Williams. Limited tickets remain here.
