The second period mirrored the first, with both teams battling and playing physical hockey. Late in the second period, the Huskies forecheck continued to cause Maine troubles as the Huskies were able to maintain the puck in the offensive zone and Joey Muldowney found Jake Richard who after being denied once b Albin Boija found the back of the net on the rebound tip, giving UConn the 2-1 lead heading into the period break.
Early in the third period Maine was able to find the equalizer once again as the first shot by Muszelik was saved but the rebound chance was pushed through for the Black bears second goal of the night. Midway through the period, the Huskies had an opportunity to regain the lead as a Maine penalty gave them the man advantage, and just five seconds into the power play the Huskies capitalized as Ryan Tattle redirected a shot from Trey Scott for the goal. With just under seven minutes left in the third period, Maine sent a long pass that took a nice bounce leading to an odd man rush which ended with a Black Bear goal tying the game at three. Neither team was able to find the back of the net again in regulation forcing a sudden death overtime period.
