STORRS โย Men's basketball head coachย Dan Hurleyย has agreed to a two-year contract extension, as announced by the University of Connecticut Department of Athletics on Friday (Oct. 30).ย Hurley, who had four years remaining on a six-year deal signed in 2024, signed a new six-year contract running through 2032 under the existing terms.ย

In his first eight years at the helm in Connecticut,ย Hurleyย has revitalized the program to its blue blood status and cemented himself as one of the great coaches in modern college basketball.ย Hurleyย is 199-75 as the head coach at UConn and led the Huskies to the 2023 and 2024 national titles, becoming the first coach in program history to claim back-to-back titles and one of three to achieve the feat since the era of John Wooden. He led UConn back to the national title game in 2026, becoming the youngest active head coach to make three final four trips and the only coach this millennium to reach three title games in a four-year span. Since 2022-23 the Huskies have compiled a staggeringย 126-28ย record.ย
Hurleyย has dominated the NCAA Tournament during his first 16 years as a collegiate head coach, goingย 20-6ย in the Big Dance to tie six others for the best start to a coaching career in tournament history. He isย 11-1ย in the Round of 16 or later, the best mark of any coach in NCAA Tournament history.ย ย His .769 winning percentage in the tournament is the second-best of any coach in March Madness history, behind only John Wooden's 47-10 (.825) record.
In BIG EAST play,ย Hurleyย has led the Huskies to an 86-30 record in regular season conference action, the best record in the BIG EAST since Connecticut returned to the league ahead of 2020-21. He led UConn to the 2024 regular season and BIG EAST Tournament titles and recorded three of the four highest-win totals in a BIG EAST season in league history, winning a conference-record 18 games in 2023-24 and 17 in 2025-26.ย
Hurleyย was the second-fastest coach in BIG EAST history to reach both 50 and 75 league wins, tied with Rollie Massimino in hitting 50 and behind only John Thompson Jr. for both. Only Thompson, Jr. won more games (75) in his first 100 BIG EAST conference games than Hurley's 73.ย Hurley'sย .741 winning percentage in BIG EAST games is the best of any coach in the history of the conference, minimum 100 league games coached.
Overall, in his 16-year college head coaching career, Hurley has compiled a record of 350-180 with stops at Wagner (2010-12, 38-23), Rhode Island (2012-18, 113-82) and UConn (2018-pres., 199-75). Prior to ascending to the collegiate ranks he spent 2001-10 as the head coach at St. Benedict's Prep in Newark, N.J., where he went 223-21 and coached five future NBA players.ย
During his tenure in Storrs,ย Hurleyย has seen 12 of his charges go on to the NBA, including seven first round draft picks and four lottery selections. He has mentored 10 First Team All-Conference selections sine 2020-21, with the three First Team picks in 2025-26 setting a BIG EAST record.ย
In the classroom,ย Hurley'sย Huskies are coming off aย perfect 1000 single-year APR score in 2024-25. Cam Spencer was named First Team Academic All-America in 2023-24 and Alex Karaban was named the BIG EAST Sport Excellence Award winner for men's basketball in 2025-26.ย
Hurley's ninth season at UConn and 17thย as a collegiate head coach begins on Monday, Nov. 2 against Gardner-Webb.ย
