STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's soccer team secured a decisive 3-0 victory over the Colgate Raiders on Sunday afternoon at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium. After a scoreless first half, the Huskies broke through with three goals in the second half, two coming from senior forward Austin Brummett. The win moves the Huskies to 4-0-2 this season.
Redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper Kyle Durham earned his second straight clean sheet and fourth this season, making three saves in the win.
The game was scoreless through the first 45 minutes with UConn leading in shot opportunities, 7-3 at the half.
The second half commenced with Austin Brummett making an immediate impact, scoring the game-winning-goal just 51 seconds into the half. Brummett struck a rocket from 20 yards out with his right foot for his team leading fourth goal this season, and third game-winner.
Brummett found the back of the net once again with a diving header off a brilliant over the top pass from Sabri Hanni, putting the Huskies up 2-0 in the first four minutes of the second half. The brace is Brummett's third multi-goal game of his career and first this season. Hanni finished with two assists in the match.
UConn continued to press for more in the second half, outshooting Colgate, 9-6 in the final 45 minutes.
Sophomore forward Alfonso Arredondo iced the game with his first career goal in the final minute of the match, giving the Huskies their third straight victory. Sophomore midfielder Mateo DePinho tallied his first career assist on the Arredondo goal.
