STORRS, Conn. - Former UConn baseball LHP PJ Poulin (2016-18) has been called up to the Major Leagues by the Washington Nationals on Monday morning.
The former UConn closer has spent seven years in the minors with Colorado, Detroit and just was picked up by the Nationals this weekend.Â
Poulin was an 11th Round pick of the Colorado Rockies in the 2018 MLB Draft after earning ABCA/Rawling Third Team All-American honors as a closer in 2018. At the time, the lefthander set the UConn single-season saves record with 16 while making 31 appearances. The Marion, Mass. native totaled 60 strikeouts in 49.2 innings while going 6-2 with a 3.26 ERA.Â
Poulin would become the 20th UConn player to appear in Major League Baseball and would be the ninth Husky coached by head coach Jim Penders to appear in Bigs.Â
The lefty would be the fourth UConn pitcher to reach the Major Leagues under pitching coach Josh MacDonald.Â
