Enaji Muhammad Punches Ticket to NCAA Championships

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- UConn freshman high jumper Enaji Muhammad (Branford, Conn.) punched his ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon after finishing 10th in the high jump at the NCAA East Region First Round Friday in Jacksonville.
Muhammad's personal best jump of 2.15m brings the first-year Husky into a tie for the sixth-best mark in program history, securing him a spot at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in just his freshman season. Two weeks ago at the BIG EAST Championships, Muhammad secured the gold medal in the high jump with a 2.11m jump. Muhammad's qualifying performance surpassed his previous personal best mark that he set at the UConn Dog Fight in April at 2.14m.
Earlier on day 3, Kyle Johnson (Montverde, Fla.), Marc Morrison (Orlando, Fla.) and Kasey Savage (Horsham, Pa.) competed in the triple jump, claiming 20th, 24th, and 36th, respectively. Terrel Williams (Maplewood, N.J.) finished 14th in the 110m hurdle quarterfinals with a season-best time of 13.66. O.J. Muhammad is the fourth Husky so far to qualify for the national championships, joining Maresa Hense (Heptathlon) , Diarmuid O'Connor (Decathlon) , and Josh Mooney (Decathlon)
The East Regionals conclude tomorrow in Jacksonville, with five more Huskies looking to punch their tickets to Eugene.Â
